What is Integrative or Holistic Mental Health?

Integrative mental health, also known as holistic mental health, is an approach to mental healthcare that combines conventional medical treatments with complementary and alternative therapies to promote overall mental well-being. It emphasizes the connection between the mind, body, and spirit and recognizes that various factors can influence an individual’s mental health.

The concept of integrative mental health stems from the belief that addressing the whole person, rather than just treating symptoms, leads to more comprehensive and effective care. Integrative mental health practitioners consider a person’s lifestyle, environment, genetics, emotional state, and other factors that may contribute to their mental health concerns.

Key principles of integrative mental health may include:

  • Personalized Treatment: Your mental health needs are unique, and treatment plans are tailored to address your specific circumstances and preferences.
  • Holistic Approach: Integrative mental health considers the interconnectedness of physical, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of your life in assessing and addressing your mental health concerns.
  • Combining Therapies: Conventional treatments, such as psychotherapy and medication, may be integrated with complementary and alternative therapies like mindfulness practices, yoga, meditation, nutrition, exercise, and herbal supplements.
  • Preventive Care: The focus is not only on treating existing mental health conditions but also on preventing future issues by promoting overall well-being and resilience.
  • Collaboration: Integrative mental health practitioners often work collaboratively, combining the expertise of medical doctors, therapists, nutritionists, and other professionals to provide comprehensive care.
  • Patient Empowerment: You are encouraged to actively participate in your treatment decisions. We want to help empower you and connect with your capacity for change.

LGBTQIA+ Affirming Mental Health Treatment

We are a queer-owned business and provide unapologetically LGBTQIA+ affirming care.

Your care and treatment are important to us. You deserve to be treated with respect. We are here to support you in your wellness whether you are struggling to manage societal pressures, learning to navigate the world as your authentic self, healing from spiritual/religious trauma or family conflict.

We want you to help you identify your strengths and build resilience so that you can work towards celebrating your identity. You deserve to live the life that you want and feel safe and comfortable in your own skin.

Affirming care is important for several reasons, as it addresses the unique healthcare needs and challenges faced by the community. Affirming care means providing support, validation, and understanding of a person’s sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

Here are some key reasons why affirming care is essential and important to us:

  • LGBTQIA+ individuals often face stigma, discrimination, and societal pressures related to their sexual orientation and gender identity. Affirming care helps create a safe and non-judgmental environment where you can openly discuss your feelings, experiences, and concerns, leading to improved mental and emotional well-being.
  • Studies have shown that LGBTQIA+ individuals are more likely to delay or avoid seeking healthcare due to fear of discrimination or negative experiences with healthcare providers. The most important thing is for you to feel safe and understood by your providers and trust that they understand your health and mental health needs.
